Spit, kick, revolt. is the debut album by Irish post-hardcore band Follow My Lead . It was released on June 17, 2016 on the US record label inVogue Records .

History of origin

On December 11th, 2014 it was announced that Follow My Lead had signed a record deal with the label Fearless Records . On the same day, the single XIII was officially presented. This should be the group's only release on Fearless Records.

Although the album was announced for 2015, the musicians remained quiet for a long time. It was not until May that the band released more news, which said, among other things, that singer Mattie Foxx had left the band and a new lead singer was wanted. After a two-month search, a new singer was found in Danny Bochkow.

On April 11, 2016, the group released Jugular, the first song from their debut album. On the same day the band announced they had signed with inVogue Records and announced the album that Spit, Kick, Revolt. means for June 17, 2016. In the meantime, Follow My Lead released two more singles with Charcoal and Brain Storm .

The album was recorded and produced in Sweden by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman .

Reviews

Natasha Van Duser of the English-language New Noise Magazine wrote that the band has returned more strongly than before after the singer change. The pieces on the album sound authentic and at times have elements of Nu-Metal and even go in the direction of Viking Metal , with the critic citing the piece Jugular . She also writes that Follow My Lead is in some passages comparable to Linkin Park's earlier works . She only feels the clear vocals of Danny Bochkow at times weak and interchangeable.

The critic Identity of Sound Fiction describes the album from the first to the very last line as an "attack of aggression". He calls the vocals hard, the drumming intense and attests to the album with some fat guitar riffs. The quick and aggressive tone that is adopted reflects the title of the album, according to the critic. Identity writes that the group managed to bring in enough variety, despite the fast pace of the pieces, so that the album doesn't come across as monotonous.
