The Spitalmühle is a former grain and wage mill in Iphofen in Lower Franconia . It is located on the edge of the old town of Iphöfer on the Wehrbach .

history

The place name refers to the former lordship of the mill. The mill was in the neighborhood of the Iphöfer Hospital St. Johannes Baptist . Later the miller also had to pay interest to the hospital . The mill was first mentioned in 1376. At that time it was part of the large estates of the nuns from the Benedictine monastery in Kitzingen . They undertook not to sell their “Mulczu Ypfhouen” without the consent of Bishop Gerhard von Schwarzburg .

In 1383, however, this sale took place, probably this process was supported by the bishop . The "Mulin bei der Stat zu Ypfhofen" was sold. In the 15th century, six millers argued about the use of water on the streams between Kitzingen and Iphofen. The mill changed hands again in 1492. The city of Iphofen sold the “Mülenn unter dem Spitelsehe” to the citizen Hermann Beck.

During the Second Margrave War , the troops of Albrecht Alcibiades invaded Iphofen. The mill was burned down in 1553. It was rebuilt in the 17th century and Johann Grön ran it as "SpittelMuller". Around 1770 the "Spittel-Mühl" was part of the parish of Iphofen. In 1835 the hospital mill was described as a grinding and tanning mill on the Wehrbach. The mill buildings are classified as a monument .

description

It is a single-storey building with a half-timbered upper floor , which ends with a half-hipped mansard roof . It has four window axes on the street side. The windows are partially decorated with drilled frames. A barn of a similar construction has been preserved as an outbuilding . Both buildings were erected in the 17th or 18th centuries.
