Alan Splet
Alan Splet (born December 31, 1939 , † December 2, 1994 in Berkeley , California ) was an American sound engineer .
Life
Splet began his career with David Lynch's early student work, the short film The Grandmother . Between 1977 and 1986 he worked on four films Lynchs with, Eraserhead , The Elephant Man , The Desert Planet and Blue Velvet . At the 1980 Academy Awards , Splet received the Special Achievement Award for Black's sound editing , the black flash . When he had to stay away from the awards ceremony due to a car breakdown, he became the object of ridicule from host Johnny Carson , who called him a running gagMentioned by name several times during the award ceremony: “ It happens every year. Splet was married to sound engineer Ann Kroeber from 1981 until his death in 1994 . In 1995 he was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Motion Picture Sound Editors for his life's work.
