The Schlosswallhalle (alternative spelling: Schloßwallhalle ) or Sporthalle am Schlosswall (alternative spelling: Sporthalle am Schloßwall ) is an urban sports hall in the center of Osnabrück .

history

The castle wall hall was opened in the early 1880s . In 1882 the Osnabrücker Turnerbund moved into the hall.

After the Second World War, the destroyed hall was rebuilt in 1952/1953. The hall roof was erected in the form of a prestressed concrete structure that managed without supports.

From the end of the 1950s to the beginning of the 1970s, the hall was the home ground of the men's basketball team of VfL Osnabrück , which played first-class at the time. The games were watched by up to 2200 spectators in the castle wall hall. In 1966 the 34th German Table Tennis Championship took place in the Schlosswallhalle. In 1982 the hall was one of the venues for the men's handball world championship . Until the move to the Kikxxlarena , the Schlosswallhalle was also the home ground of the men's basketball team GiroLive-Ballers Osnabrück .

In 2010, a new building or a renovation of the now almost 50-year-old hall building was up for debate. After an investigation showed that the load-bearing capacity of the prestressed concrete structure of the roof is still given, the hall was renovated between 2012 and 2014 for 7.3 million euros. Since then it has accommodated up to 1400 spectators, 700 of them in the grandstand.

The Addi-Vetter-Cup indoor soccer tournament is held annually with local soccer teams. The hall is also used by various sports clubs and schools.

The Schlosswallhalle is located on a plot of land between the streets Schloßwall , Schnatgang and Heinrichstraße in the Osnabrück district of Desert , on the border with the city center . Opposite the sports hall is the OsnabrückHalle event building (formerly Osnabrück City Hall ).
