history

Coat of arms of Abbot Heinrich von Wassenberg on the court portal

On January 30, 1299, the Springiersbach monastery acquired a property in Pleyt in Edegry . This was the beginning of the monastery winery in Ediger. In 1341, the married couple Heinrich von Arras and Elisabeth der Abbey transferred a pension to Edegry. In 1352, a court in Edegre at the intersection of Oberbachstrasse and Kirchstrasse is documented, courtiers were Heinrich von Cond and Gela. From March 1, 1364, Kowzo von Zeltank and Else were courtiers. In 1374 Thele Bicor from Ediger sold 6 vineyards to the abbey. In 1479 (November 13th) Georg Untzen and Else were the courtiers. In 1572 a ding book (order of work) begins for both farms. In 1752–53 under Abbot Johann Heinrich von Wassenberg, the old building was demolished and a baroque building was erected in its place . It is still in this form today. The monastery coat of arms can be seen above the courtyard portal. In 1781 the estates and Lehnwingerten in Ediger were renovated.

In 1781 the two farms were leased to Nikolaus Becker. Here is the translation of the original lease certificate, as far as legible:

In 1794, under Hofmann Nikolaus Becker (tenant), the monastery winery had the following number of vines :

  • 1st class 1693 sticks
  • 2nd class 1481 sticks
  • 3rd class 7262 sticks

The monastery only owned the new house for almost 50 years. Afterwards, the abbey was dissolved and expropriated in the course of secularization by Napoleon Bonaparte . The Ediger estate was auctioned in 1803.

The buyer was the courtier Nikolaus Becker from Ediger, whose family still lives in the house to this day. Like most coats of arms in the Rhineland, the coat of arms on the archway was knocked off. Some fragments have been preserved. In 2006 it was restored true to the original.

1997-2000 the courtyard was restored. The property is now home to a winery again.

In Ediger, the Springiersbach monastery also had a lower courtyard in Kapellenstrasse from 1334 to 1794, named after the Martental Monastery Marthendaller Hoff .

architecture

The Felsenkeller is loud urban research to back in 1299, making it one of the oldest rock cellar on the Mosel. The building is beautifully decorated inside and out. The original clay stucco ceilings have been preserved. The entire property at Kirchstrasse 15 and Oberbachstrasse 30 is under monument protection or ensemble protection as a building that characterizes the townscape. In 2010 the court received the award "Particularly valuable, monument-compliant renovation, a building that defines the townscape in a rural area" from the government president.
