Srđan Darmanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Срђан Дармановић ; born July 18, 1961 in Cetinje , Yugoslavia ) is a Montenegrin political scientist, diplomat and politician ( DPS ). He has been the country's foreign minister since 2016.

Life

Srđan Darmanović studied political science with a focus on international relations at the University of Belgrade . In 2002 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Montenegro in Podgorica with a thesis on the topic of democratic system change and consolidation in southern and eastern Europe . He then taught at the political science institute of this faculty, since 2010 as a professor.

From 1992 to 1996 he was a member of the parliament of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . From 1993 to 1996 he was deputy chairman of the DPS.

Since 2005 he has been a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. From December 2010 to October 2016 he was the Montenegrin Ambassador to the United States with responsibility also for Canada .

Since 2016 he has been Foreign Minister in the government of Duško Marković .

He is a successful chess player with a highest Elo rating of 2282 in January 2010.
