Srećko Nedeljković

Srećko Nedeljković (born December 4, 1923 in Dragačevo , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † January 2, 2011 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav, later Serbian chess player and doctor .

Nedeljković learned to play chess at the age of 13 from his older brother.

At the Yugoslav championship in 1948/49 he was Yugoslav champion. In 1950 he won the international tournament in Belgrade and was awarded the title of International Master by the World Chess Federation FIDE . He was team captain in the chess Olympiads in Moscow 1956 , Havana 1966 and Buenos Aires 1978 . At the European team championships in 1957 and 1961 , he reached second place with the Yugoslav team. As a coach Nedeljković also celebrated successes, such as the gold medal at the Chess Olympiad in 1950 for the Yugoslav team.

Nedeljković studied at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, which he graduated in 1952. In 1959 he became a professor there. As a founding member of the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, he was chairman of the institute from 1959 to 1987. He worked with Michael Ellis DeBakey , among others . Nedeljković wrote eight books, 212 articles and 136 lectures.

Private

Nedeljković was the husband of the chess master Verica Nedeljković . He had two sons and a grandson who also had chess successes.
