The Municipal Gallery in the Old Locksmith's Shop , also known as Städtische Galerie Lehrte or Städtische Galerie Alte Schlosserei Lehrte for short, and simply called Städtische Galerie , is an exhibition and event building in the city of Lehrte , Hanover region . The gallery houses the stored collection of the painter and graphic artist Franz Belting and shows objects of contemporary art in five annual art exhibitions . The house also has an event area with a stagein order to be able to bring different forms of the visual arts into interaction and interaction with the performing arts . The location is the Alte Schlosserei 1 in Lehrte.

History and description

The reason for the establishment of the gallery by the city of Lehrte was the donation in 1988 of a 110-picture collection of own pictures by the artist Franz Belting, who was born in Lehrte 80 years earlier. From 1988 to 1993, the city initially exclusively presented the Franz Belting Collection , initially in rooms on Königstraße, then from 1993 to 2005 in gallery rooms on Ahltener Straße , where other works of contemporary art, especially painting, were also regularly presented from 1996 Exhibitions were shown. During these twelve exhibition years, the Städtische Galerie Lehrte - next to the Städtische Galerie der Landeshauptstadt Hannover, the only gallery in the Hannover region to be run by a municipality - developed into an "important address for contemporary art in the Hannover region."

After the brick- built clinker building in 1952, later the so-called old locksmith's shop, had been refurbished and renovated in 2005 on the site of the former Lehrter sugar factory, the "Municipal Gallery in the Old Locksmith's Shop" was able to start operations in February 2006 at the new location.
