The Akko Municipal Stadium ( Hebrew הָאִצְטַדְיוֹן הָעִירוֹנִי שֶׁל עַכּוֹ Ha-'Izṭadjōn ha-ʿĪrōnī schel ʿAkkō ; English Acre Municipal Stadium ) is a football stadium in the Israeli city of Akko , in the northern district of the country. It is the home ground of the HaPōʿel ʿAkkō football club from the first Israeli league and offers 5000 seats. Furthermore, the lower-class clubs Maccabi ʿĪrōnī ʿAkkō, FC Achi ʿAkkō and FC Haifa Robi Shapira use the stadium.
history
For many years, Hapoel Akko played in the 5000-seat Napoleon Stadium . In the 2000s, the stadium's west stand was demolished for a new line operated by the state-owned Israel Railways . As a result, the facility could only be used as a training ground. The club had to move to other stadiums for its home games.
The new sports facility is located near the coast of the eastern Mediterranean . It is owned by the city and consists of the three-part, covered main grandstand and the covered tier on the back straight. While the two small roofs of the main stand are flat, the large roof sections on the main and opposite sides have an arch shape . The stadium has four changing rooms and additional rooms as well as 1000 m² of commercial space. The facility is surrounded by a wall. The playing field made of natural grass can be illuminated by floodlights . The construction costs amounted to 50 million ILS (around 12 million euros ). The money came from the city of Akko, the betting company Toto Winner, Israel Railways, the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Traffic Safety and the Ministry of Energy and Water Supply .
The new building was inaugurated on September 4, 2011. The friendly match between Hapoel Akko and Maccabi Haifa (0: 2) took place at the opening . The first competitive game was a game in the Ligat ha'Al on September 12, 2011 between Hapoel Akko and Hapoel Be'er Scheva (2-0).
