Stéphane Sirkis , real name Stéphane Sirchis (born June 22, 1959 in Antony , Département Seine , † February 27, 1999 in Paris ), was a French musician and composer . He was the twin brother of Nicola Sirkis and a member of the band Indochine .

youth

The son of an atomic engineer spent the first year of his life with his brothers Nicolas and Christophe in Igny . Due to a change in the father's job, the family later moved to Brussels in Belgium . The family lived in good conditions, and in their free time they mainly listened to classical music. The family situation was also characterized by great respect, Stéphane welcomed his parents, who in turn tolerated many things, such as the children's smoking in public. In 1971 the parents separated and Stéphane then lived with his mother. After the parents separated, Stéphane went to boarding school , and later the mother and her children moved to near Paris . For Stéphane, this meant another turning point in his development, as he had previously been used to living in large houses, but the family only moved into a smaller apartment. This turning point also had an impact on his relationship with his twin brother. Previously, school classes were attended together, but now they have been separated for reasons of quotas. The personal interests and circle of friends of the two also changed.

After Stéphane failed high school, he took distance learning. At first it was his wish to become a lawyer, later he wanted to work with children. Ultimately, however, he began to study philosophy. Since his school days, Stéphane had been active on the left.

Hobbies

Stéphane was interested in sports, especially alpinism. This went so far that he moved from Paris to the Alps for five years and also participated in a rescue force there. He was also interested in drawing and sought contact with numerous artists who then became friends. It was also his dream to create his own picture stories.

Private life

Seldom did anything leak to the public about his private life. In 1987 he married Sophie. She gave birth to his first and only daughter, Lou, on August 8, 1990. She inherited her father's musical streak and now plays and sings in her own band, toybloid . On December 7th and 8th, 2006 she and Indochine performed two songs in front of 17,000 people each in Bercy. Stéphane's marriage was divorced after only a few years, but his daughter continued to be the center of his life. Until his death, he lived with Éliette, a woman about whom he reported nothing to the public. Only in an interview at this point did he say that he would regret not being able to have his daughter Lou with the woman he would love infinitely.

death

While the band began recording the record Dancetaria in Belgium , Stéphane died of hepatitis in Paris. The allegation that his death came as a surprise is refuted by a report by the French news agency AFP. Accordingly, Stéphane's health had been weakened for years, caused by numerous excesses "which a rock star life brings with it". The hepatitis would only have been the last stage of previous illnesses. Stéphane was known for his lively participation in the Parisian nightlife and for his alcohol problems. Journalists also recall that at times he appeared in a highly intoxicated and uncontrollable state in front of the press in the presence of his brother. After his death, his brother Nicola declared: “We have been very close in this tough battle for the past two years because he just had to stop drinking. The fact is that he may have been through too much. Without a doubt he wanted to leave this world of his own volition. "

He was buried in camera on March 4, 1999 in the Cimetière Parisien de Bagneux cemetery. At Nicola's request , a public memorial service was held on March 12, 1999, with which the fans should be able to say goodbye to Stéphane.

Anecdotes

After an interview, a journalist made a typo. So his brother was not called Nicolas Sirchis, but Nicola Sirkis. Stéphane and Nicola took the opportunity and made the spelling mistake their stage name.
