The Stöckener Bach is about 2.7 kilometers long, orographically right and eastern tributary of the Leine in the Hanoverian district of Stöcken in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).
geography
The Stöckener Bach rises today near the street corner Gretelriede / Eilersweg from a pipe that drains the once damp Gretelriede basin . A connection to the historical Strangriedegraben upstream can no longer be recognized. The stream, which is largely piped in its upper reaches, flows in a trench built with steep embankments in a westerly direction. The middle and lower reaches of the stream run in an elongated narrow green corridor. Here, piped sections in the Stöcken municipal wood were removed and a natural river bed with bends and flood channels was created. The Stöckener Bach has dug a 4 m deep notch valley on the edge of the terrace of the Neustadt-Stöckener Leinetal , in which many plant and animal species occur compared to the surrounding area. Shortly before the confluence with the Leine, it crosses under the Bundesstraße 6, Straße Am Leineufer under gratings in a tunnel also used by cyclists. The gradient and sometimes even the direction of flow of the water at the confluence with the Leine vary depending on the water level. Since the Stöckener Bach is mainly fed by the rainwater canals of the districts of Stöcken, Ledeburg , Leinhausen and the industrial area of Stöcken, its water supply swells when it rains. The stream sometimes falls dry, especially in late summer and autumn .
environment
The uneven water flow and the organic pollutants carried into the stream through the rainwater channels keep the number of species and, above all, the number of individuals in the water in relation to other streams low.
fauna
In 2007 water studies only found large numbers of water lice . Mostly there was Common pond snails ( Radix ovata ), bladder snails ( Physa acuta ), fingernail clams ( spec Sphaerium. ) Achtäugige Schlundegel ( Erpobdella octoculata ) and amphipods ( Gammarus pulex ). In the periodically dry falling stream section in the community wood, the liver fluke snail ( Galba truncatula ) occurred instead of the amphipods .
Water quality
The Stöckener Bach is critically polluted everywhere below the largely piped section that was not examined in detail in 2007 (quality class II-III).
