course
Upper course
Together with the Kaltenalbach and the Förstertränke, the Stübchenbach starts on the hillside of the Kaltalskopf, southeast of Bad Harzburg in the Harz National Park . For the first 600 meters, the stream descends relatively steeply to the northwest, and then, accompanied by a hiking trail, goes into the stable valley location of the Stübchen valley and flows about one kilometer to the north. After two kilometers of river length and the inclusion of an orographically right tributary without a name, the Stübchenbach reaches Bad Harzburg city area and turns again to the northwest in a fan position between the Harz border and Butterberg ; the already mentioned hiking trail continues here seamlessly in the Stübchentalstraße and this time it continues to accompany the stream as a municipal road on the right side for a length of 600 meters. Trees line the bank of the stream, which is initially bordered on the left and then on both sides 400 meters after entering the village. At the bend in Stübchentalstrasse to the north, the senior citizens' residence "Am Stübchenbach" was built, through which the Stübchenbach flows in the middle and feeds a pond.
Lower course
After passing through the nursing home, the Stübchenbach bends first to the west-north-west, 300 meters later finally to the west and from here flows parallel to the L 501 state road (Ilsenburger Straße). The stream is still in relatively concealed camps due to adjacent houses, the forest on the bank also remains. Shortly before a vocational school, 250 meters after the west bend and 3.2 kilometers after the source, the Stübchenbach disappears in a pipeline and runs for about 500 meters underground to the west-northwest. Immediately to the west of the bridge of the four-lane B 4 , the Stübchenbach reappears on its last 65 meters, grazes some residential buildings in a heavily canalised construction and then flows north of Herzog-Julius-Straße (L 501) into the Radau .
Trivia
- The Stübchenbach serves as a receiving water for the Sachsenbrunnen . On the basis of a planning from the 11th century, the water of the Stübchenbach in the upper reaches was tapped in 1898 to feed this well, as the original water supply was insufficient.
