The Catholic parish church of St-Germain-d'Auxerre in Coignières , a community in the Yvelines department in the French region of Île-de-France , dates back to a Romanesque church building from the 12th century. The church is dedicated to St. Germanus of Auxerre , who was Bishop of Auxerre in the 5th century . Until the French Revolution , the church belonged to the Diocese of Chartres and since then to the Diocese of Versailles . In the church there is a stained glass window from the 16th century, which was added to the list of listed objects ( Base Palissy ) in France in 1908 as Monument historique .

architecture

Exterior construction

The church is made of mill sandstone . The bell tower covered with a pyramid roof was built over the west facade in 1868 , which is broken through on all four sides by round-arched, coupled sound arcades . The facade is divided into three levels vertically and horizontally. The vertical structure results in three large glare fields that extend over the entire facade to the roof, which are delimited by flat buttresses and framed in the middle by a round arch and at the sides by semi-arches. Three round arched windows arranged one above the other are cut into the fields, two triple windows in the middle on the two upper levels and an unadorned portal on the ground floor.

Choir

inner space

The nave is still from the 13th century. The choir was renewed in the 16th century. The patronage chapel, which is covered with a star vault with keystones , was also built during this time .

Renaissance window

Leaded glass window from the 16th century

A stained glass window from the first half of the 16th century has been preserved in the choir. On the window scenes from the story of Susanna's bath are shown. Susanna, accused of adultery and sentenced to death, is saved by the prophet Daniel . Scenes of a legend of a saint can be seen on other panes.

Furnishing

Much of the furnishings come from the Hautes-Bruyères monastery in Saint-Rémy-l'Honoré , which was disbanded during the French Revolution.

  • The oil painting of the Seven Sorrows of Mary with scenes from the life of Jesus and the Passion , painted on wood, dates from the last quarter of the 16th century. It was added to the list of Base Palissy in 1905 as Monument historique.
  • The stone sculpture of St. Germanus of Auxerre is dated to the 16th century.
