The Roman Catholic Church of St-Pierre et St-Paul in Dampierre ( Aube department , Grand Est region , France ) is a basilica that has been classified as a Monument historique since 1913 .

history

The Seigneurie (rule) Dampierre was one of the most important in Champagne . Initially owned by the House of Dampierre et Bourbon , it came to the de Châtillon family in the 14th century and to the de Lannoy family in the 16th century . The eastern parts of the church with the choir and transept date from the end of the 12th century, the nave from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, and the side chapels of the choir from the same period.

construction

The church is a three-aisled basilica with a four-bay nave, transept and choir with an apse at a five-eighth end with round arches, which are elevated by six-passages, and square side chapels, which give the impression of a second transept that is common in southern Champagne. The bell tower above the crossing is the one ingredient from the year 1682. of pinnacles flanked by a gable -winning West Portal with two archivolts was in late Gothic built time; it takes up a mercy seat . Another late Gothic portal is located in the south aisle wall.

Furnishing

Particularly noteworthy is the tomb for Pierre de Lannoy from 1523 on the wall of the north aisle. It is considered an important monument of sculpture by Troyes , but has only survived in a damaged condition. Angels hold the pillow on the sides of the life-size reclining figure. The Tumba bears the Lannoy coat of arms.

In the south aisle chapel there is a relief of the baptism of Christ from the 16th century.
