Bouriège, St-Saturnin Church

St-Saturnin is a Roman Catholic church in Bouriège in the Aude department in France .

history

The church, dedicated to Saint Saturninus of Toulouse , was built in the Romanesque style and probably dates back to the 12th century. With the omission of the west tower, it corresponds to a complete system of a Romanesque village church with a single-nave nave with an attached choir , which closes in the east with a semicircular apse . The town of Bouriège was first mentioned in 1286 and the church may have been originally dedicated to St. John.

In 1878 the church, which was in very poor condition, underwent a major renovation and the octagonal church tower was added to the north of the nave.
