The former St. Petri Hospital: cafe contact

The former Sankt-Petri- Hospital is a listed building on the cathedral island of Brandenburg in Brandenburg an der Havel . It is owned by the church and is used or operated by the Evangelical Church District Mittelmark-Brandenburg as a youth center cafe contact . The building at Domlinden 23 is a listed building .

history

The St. Petri Hospital was founded or opened as a charitable institution in 1555 within sight of the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral . In 1883 the old house was extensively renovated. Until the time of the GDR , the building was used to accommodate old and needy people. In 1980, the city's Evangelical Church established a social facility for people of different origins and in difficult life situations, the cafe contact.

In the first few years politically opposition, former prisoners and - not a matter of course for a church institution - homosexual self- help groups belonged to the circle of visitors to the social institution. Rooms have been made available to them. After the political change, the cafe contact initially became a so-called youth and unemployed center, later a youth center. Since the facility threatened to close due to the poor structural condition, the house was extensively restored and rebuilt in 1993 .

Building

The building is single-story and is exposed to the street. It was faced with yellow clinker bricks. Decorative elements are designed with red bricks. The house is traufständig the street. The portal is centrally located in a central projection . It is a step portal (three-step) and is finished with a segment arch . A narrow and only slightly protruding roof was created with fragments of roof tiles . White inscription stones with the dates 1555, 1883 and 1993 and with the coat of arms of the diocese of Brandenburg or the cathedral monastery are incorporated above this . The top of the inscription stones is also framed with fragments of roof tiles. The risalit goes beyond the eaves of the house. It is bordered on the sides by pilaster strips that are extended like a crenellated tower . The risalit is crowned with a small gable , behind which there is a modern glass dormer .

On both sides of the portal there are three segmented arched windows. Between two windows and around corners, pilaster strips structure and decorate the facade . The eaves cornice is apparently supported by small consoles . The outer walls on the gable side are plastered and painted white. The windows in this area are unadorned rectangular windows . In the gable roof , the modern gable dormers are constructed in glass and steel construction. The roof is covered with beaver tails .

cafe contact

The cafe contact has several rooms that are used differently. On the ground floor there are offices, a workshop, a computer room, lounges for guests, a kitchen and toilets. In the converted attic there is a larger hall and an employee apartment. Several social educators take care of the visitors if necessary. There are regular and irregular events.
