St. Anna in Herkheim

St. Anna is a Catholic church in the Herkheim district of Nördlingen .

history

A keystone in the chancel vault of the tower indicates the year the church was built: 1420. The mighty rectangular tower with its combined tent and onion roof comes from this time . The tower, which forms the choir with its Gothic ribbed vault with two bays , has retained its old character.

Only the foundation walls of the nave can be added to the time of construction (1420). A fire disaster, possibly in connection with the Thirty Years War , was the trigger for a rebuilding. The pointed arched choir arch and the arched ends on the windows probably date from this period. At the end of the 17th century, the nave was fundamentally changed, especially the shallow barrel and the windows. Due to dilapidation, today's barrel vault was pulled in and a new organ gallery was built . In 1907 today's organ was built.

The neo-Gothic high altar was removed in 1950 and replaced by the current altar.

A thorough interior renovation of the Anna Church was carried out from February to April 2006.
