Church of St. Antonius Hermit in Halingen

The Catholic Church of St. Antonius Einsiedler is a listed church building on Halinger Dorfstrasse in Halingen , a district of Menden in the Märkisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

In 1587, visitors to the Elector of Cologne visited the place. They ordered that the destroyed chapel not be rebuilt. Around 1590 it was decided to build a new chapel in place of the destroyed building; this was consecrated in 1647 by the auxiliary bishop Bernhard Frick . At the end of the 19th century the building became too small and a new building was planned. The place was chosen in the center of the village.

The neo-Gothic stepped hall made of brick with a one- bay choir at the five- eighth end was built in 1908/09 under the direction of Hermann Wieders. The transept arms look short, the tower stands in the southern corner of the choir. Due to the elevated position and the staggering of the building sections, the east elevation appears concise. The portal and the tracery rose in the west facade are located in a high pointed arch niche, the transept facade is similarly elaborate. The vaulted crowns of the light interior with round supports are decorated with ornamented sound openings of a former vaulted organ. The colored windows in the nave are marked Wilhelm Derix .

The altar was taken from the old chapel , relics were found in the antependium with wax seals from Bishop Frick. These are relics of the holy martyrs Simplicius and Mansuetus .

On December 1, 1973, the spire of the tower burned down. The topping-out ceremony for the new spire was celebrated on September 6, 1974.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic furnishings are extensive

  • The altarpiece was built in 1920 by the Marmon art workshop in Sigmaringen.
  • The pulpit and the confessional are works by Franz Heise.
  • The organ loft of Eggert and Feith was in 1927 by the church in Lippstadt-Benninghausen taken.
  • The retable from the previous chapel is from around 1730, the altar sheet with the depiction of St. Nepomuk was probably created in 1711.
  • In the church square there is a fountain with the figure of the Archangel Michael , it is labeled A. Mazotti, 1930 .
  • In 1946 three bells made of special bronze from Brilon were purchased, tone sequence f'-a'-b '. The bells became unusable due to the fire in 1972. In 1974, the Petit & Edelbrock foundry in Gescher cast four new bells with the tone sequence f'-as'-b'-c ".
