The Roman Catholic Kuratiekirche St. Barbara is the village church of Oberschwappach , a district of the municipality of Knetzgau in the Lower Franconian district of Haßberge . The church is not far from Oberschwappach Castle .

history

Oberschwappach belonged to the parish of Westheim as a curate . The church was built in 1721, probably by Joseph Greissing .

description

The church is a hall church . The nave with three window axes , the retracted choir with one window axis and the sacristy are lined up from south to north. The windows of the nave and choir are segmental arches . The church has a hipped roof and inside hollow-shaped ceilings with stucco . The roof turret with a Welscher hood rises above the structured western gable facade .

Furnishing

The high altar was built around the middle of the 17th century. The central figure is the Mother of God with child in front of reliefs of the fourteen helpers in need . Above is a group of figures depicting the coronation of Mary . The side altars with altar paintings of St. Liborius (right) and St. Barbara (left) were made around 1680. Its columns are rotated in contrast to those of the high altar. There are also figures of Saints Clare and Catherine (around 1500) as well as Saint Sebastian and a crucifix from around 1750 in the church.
