history

In 1264 Diedorf came into the possession of the Dominican convent of St. Katharina in Augsburg , which also had the right of presentation . In 1352 the church of Diedorf was first mentioned in a document. The lowest floors of the tower date back to the late Romanesque period . The upper floors were built around 1450. Remnants of frescoes have been preserved inside. The dilapidated church was repaired several times in the 17th century. In 1716 the Katharinenkloster donated a benefit .

The master builder Joseph Meitinger from Ustersbach had a new choir and a new nave built in 1736, the sacristy expanded and the tower raised by an octagon . He delivered the plans for the new church building as early as 1728. The master carpenter Georg Höck from Deubach was involved in the construction . The construction costs amounted to 1,500 florins. In 1751 the church was consecrated anew by the Augsburg auxiliary bishop Franz Xaver Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden. In 1821 the tower dome was given a cross from the Katharinenkloster. Until 1860 Diedorf was a branch of the parish of St. Adelgundis in Anhausen and was then raised to its own parish.

In 1961 a tuff stone grave from around 700/750 was discovered below the church during sewer work. After the new parish church Herz Mariä was built in 1965/67, the old church was closed. Urgent repairs to the church took place in 1974. Today, in the summer months from May to September, masses are celebrated there on Tuesday evenings.
