The church

The Catholic parish church of St. Blasius in Raitenbuch in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen , Nennslinger Straße 3 is the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Raitenbuch. The most valuable object of the neo-Gothic church is the Raitenbuch Madonna.

The previous church, from which the lower floors of the church tower originate, was built in the 10th or 12th century. In 1811 several valuable statues from Nennslingen were auctioned, which turned the church into a pilgrimage church. The nave was torn down at the end of the 19th century and replaced by a new neo-Gothic building by Friedrich Niedermayer . The upper, baroque storeys of the church tower with a pointed helmet were added from 1889 to 1897. The church was consecrated on September 11, 1897.

The hall church is known for its late Gothic figures of the Twelve Apostles , a world Christian , the Saints Willibald and Joachim and the Raitenbucher Madonna , all of which were created around 1470/1480. There is also a figure of St. Blaise from the 18th century and one of Erasmus of Antioch from 1520 in the church. In addition to three neo-Gothic altars , neo-Gothic pointed arches , cloverleaf arches , a Way of the Cross painted on plaster and the fourteen helpers in need, the church has painted glass windows from 1891.

There are several tombstones from the 16th to 19th centuries, including the tombstones of the Geyern taverns, on the grounds of the church and its immediate vicinity .
