St. Brictius (Olzheim)
The Church of St. Brictius is the Roman Catholic parish church of the local community Olzheim in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).
history
A church in Olzheim was mentioned for the first time in 1330. At that time, Olzheim was already an independent parish. Up until the 13th century, Olzheim was a branch of the Rommersheim parish .
It is believed that there was a church in Olzheim as early as 800. This building was set on fire around 1470 by troops from the Archbishopric of Trier and completely destroyed. A new, single-nave hall church with two bays and a choir closed on three sides was built in the Gothic style around the year 1485 . This church was demolished around 1922 except for the choir.
Between 1922 and 1923 a new, larger church was built according to plans by the Trier architect Wilhelm Buchholz in the style of reform architecture . The inauguration of the three-nave church took place on October 27, 1924. As a result of the Second World War , the church was destroyed on December 27, 1944, except for the surrounding walls.
From 1949 the church was rebuilt under the direction of the Bitburg architect Hans Geimer . Vaults were dispensed with and a simple wooden ceiling was built in instead. Finally, in 1964, a free-standing bell tower was erected. It measures about 35 meters high. In 1990 the interior was damaged by a smoldering fire. The subsequent renovation lasted a year.
Furnishing
In the church there are some painted figures of saints, a modern high altar , as well as an altar and an ambo made of red sandstone . In addition to some figures of saints, the baptismal font also survived the war.

The parish of St. Brictius also includes the three subsidiary communities of St. Agatha and Lucia / Kleinlangenfeld , St. Hubertus / Neuendorf and St. Nikolaus / Reuth .
