history

The core of today's building is likely to date from the late Middle Ages. The chapel was renewed around 1690 and consecrated in 1697. A roof turret with a dome was added in 1745 and renewed in 1818. The tower and the sign date from 1949.

Building description

View from the choir into the nave

The chapel has a slightly indented choir to an axis with a 3/8 end. The flat ceiling is located above a hollow . The nave is two axes long and also has a flat ceiling. The windows of the chapel are arched. The gallery on the west side of the nave is simply fielded and given a new decorative painting.

In the sloping walls of the choir there are clogged pointed arch windows on the outside and corner pilaster strips on the nave.

Furnishing

There is only stucco in the chapel in the choir. It dates from around 1740 and consists of ribbon and latticework with flower garlands.

Frescoes

The ceiling paintings were created by Anton Joseph Walch in 1745 . In the choir, a protective cloak Madonna carries views of Frankenhofen and Schlingen. The main picture on the nave ceiling is the glory of the 14 helpers in need. This fresco is signed AJ Walch fecit 1745 Kauffbure . The four church fathers are depicted in the oval corner medallions of the nave corners . The amateur stalls from the 18th century have broad, curved cheeks. The Way of the Cross comes from the parish church of Baisweil , the first station is marked with LC Weiss 1838 , the 13th station with Matthäus Schneider in 1903 . The wooden figures of the Salvator, St. Paul and the twelve apostles date from the second half of the 17th century . The painful Mother of God and St. John date from 1510 to 1520. The standing Mother of God was made around 1520. The two angels date from the 17th century.

Altars

High altar

The high altar of the chapel was consecrated in 1697. The marbled wooden structure is decorated with gilded acanthus leaves. The altar panel shows Christ and the apostles and is surrounded by small wooden figures of the Fourteen Holy Helpers . A lost figure was replaced with that of Saint Hubert. Thematically, however, this figure does not fit into the concept, and the representation with a pig is more likely to be assigned to Antonius the Great . The figures are flanked by cranked full columns. On the side on consoles under canopy arches there are figures of the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus . Angels sit on the straight legs of the gable. The arched elevator niche contains a seated Madonna. There are arched passages next to the cafeteria .

The side altars, probably dating from around 1700, are made of marbled wood. The modern altar leaves are flanked by full columns. On the left altar there are round gable niches with small wooden figures of Saints Cosmas and Damian from the late 15th century. The extension in the southern side altar is decorated with pilasters and a blown gable. There is an oval picture with the heart of Mary.

Bells

Of the two bells in the tower, the larger one was a gift from the Schlingen community in 1899 when a new bell was purchased there. A smaller bell had to be delivered in 1939. It bore the inscription In honor of Christophorus, this is consecrated to Gleggl. 1675 Otto Sartor zu Kempten poured me . It was melted down for war purposes and never came back. A new bell was bought in its place in 1948. It was cast in Kempten and weighs around five hundred pounds. It originally comes from Untereichen , a district of the city of Altenstadt an der Iller, and was donated to the community of Untereichen by Pastor Zanker, who was born in Untereichen. In 1936 it was poured over and since then bears the inscription I sound St. Joseph and Anton in honor, I ring the heroes to glory, I call St. Michael to defend and bring the souls to rest .
