history

A first church building in Rottershausen was built in the first half of the 15th century. In 1770 the church interior was renovated and a new church tower was built. As part of the First Coalition War , damage to the church building occurred. From 1857 to 1858 the church was expanded. While the bell tower of the previous church from the 15th century has been preserved, the nave in its present form dates from 1859. In 1921 the church got a new organ from the organ builder Willibald Siemann ; in 1926 the interior of the church was renovated. In 1965 and 1966, the church and tower were extensively renovated and expanded. The previous eastern orientation of the church was changed to a western one; on the east side of the church building from 1859, the choir was only visible inside the church, separated by a wall with a choir arch.

description

The church consists of the eastern bell tower with onion dome , the nave , the baptistery attached to the south , the transept and the western apse . The baptistery and the sacristy enclose an inner courtyard with a Marian grotto to the south of the church .

Furnishing

In the church there are former altarpieces of St. Sebastian (right) and St. Mary (left), which the sculptor and painter Michael Arnold painted in 1862 and 1868. In 1992 and 1993 the sculptor Peter Vollert from Üchtelhausen created the bronze high altar painting “Tree of Life”, the “Burning Bush” on the people's altar and the representation of the Holy Spirit on the ambo . To the left of the apse is a statue of the patron saint of the church, carved by the woodcarver Günter Metz from Langenleiten, to the right of the apse is a statue of Our Lady. The apse picture “Mission of the Holy Spirit” was painted by the Würzburg painter Friedrich May in 1979, as well as the four Evangelist windows in the transept in 1977 .

In 1914 the church got a third bell. After the bells were melted down in World War II , four new bells were later installed. On August 15, 1998, a bell consecration took place under Dean Oskar Pflüger. The newly poured bells in major are composed as follows:
