St. Dionysius in Vitzenburg

St. Dionysius is a listed Protestant church in the Vitzenburg district of the city of Querfurt in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument under registration number 094 20973 .

The St. Dionysius Church is located at Parkstraße in Vitzenburg. It is dedicated to Saint Dionysius of Paris . Originally the church had a Romanesque tower and its construction is therefore attributed to the High Middle Ages. In its early days it was the church for the villages of Vitzenburg, Zingst , Pretitz , Weißenschirmbach and Gölbitz . Only later did Weißenschirmbach get its own church and formed its own parish with Gölbitz. Because the church was rebuilt from 1713 to 1715, it now faces north-east to south-west. This renovation gave it its baroque appearance today . The nave and the tower were changed again in 1868, the tower was given its baroque top and the dome its neo-Gothic appearance.
