St. Georg (Amern)

The Catholic parish church of St. Georg is a listed church building in Amern , a district of Schwalmtal in the Viersen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The three-aisled, neo-Gothic brick hall was built from 1883 to 1886 based on designs by August Rincklake and Caspar Clemens Pickel in place of a previous church. The church stands dominantly over the old village. The extensions on the side aisles look like a chapel, the five-sided choir is accompanied by flank towers. The preserved Gothic west tower was raised by one storey with a slate pyramid between corner turrets and encased around 1900. The exterior is enlivened by a variety of roof shapes. Ribbed vaults on round pillars were drawn into the centralizing tendency of the interior . The painting was done at the beginning of the 20th century.

The services of St. George's Church take place on Sunday mornings at 11:15 a.m. and - compared to other churches - also on Tuesday at 9 a.m. and on Friday at 7 p.m.
