St. Godehard (Braunschweig)

The St. Godehard Church was a Catholic church in Braunschweig ( Lower Saxony ). Most recently the church belonged to the Braunschweig parish of St. Aegidien , in the Braunschweig deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church was named after St. Godehard von Hildesheim and was located at Holzmindener Strasse 25, the neighboring rectory at Zuckerbergweg 25. Today, St. Bernward is the closest Catholic church in the Heidberg district, two kilometers away .

history

The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1962 and its consecration on August 4, 1963 . On August 1, 2004 the parish vicarie St. Godehard was dissolved and joined the provost parish St. Aegidien . The church was also used by a Croatian community.

On February 21, 2009, it was profaned by Bishop Norbert Trelle . Plans by an investor to convert the church into condominiums were not implemented. The church building was demolished and a single-family house was built on the property around 2011.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built as a solid structure with a tower according to the plans of Rudolf Friedrich (Friedrich und Menzel architects from Destedt ) and was about 80 meters above sea level . Your organ , made in 1962 by EF Walcker & Cie. built, found a new place in the Resurrection Chapel of the Catholic cemetery in Braunschweig ; her statue of the Virgin came to the Church of St. Christophorus .
