The parish church of St. Gordianus is a Catholic church in Bad Kreuznach , Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in the Planig district .

It is the main church of the Catholic parish of St. Gordianus. The parish is located in the west of the diocese of Mainz and includes the Bad Kreuznach districts of Planig, Ippesheim and Bosenheim as well as the community of Biebelsheim .

history

After the Reformation , Catholics and Protestants shared the 12th century church. In the years 1899 and 1900 the Catholics then built their own church. It was consecrated in 1901 to Saint Gordianus and the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In 1936 a rectory was added to the west side. The interior of the church was renovated in 1970 and 1998.

architecture

The church was built in neo-Romanesque forms according to the plans of the Mainz church builder Ludwig Becker . The outer walls consist of light brown rubble stones with red sandstone structures. Inside, the walls are painted white, the round arches and pillars are accentuated in color. The south-east facing nave is a vaulted hall with a wide apse at the end. The two attached aisles also have apses and are separated from the main nave by pillar arcades. The three naves result in a cross-shaped floor plan. The 20 meter high front tower has a pointed, diamond-shaped, slate-covered roof.

Furnishing

The windows were created in 1900 by the Mainz glass painter Bernhard Kraus. The choir windows with representations from the life of Christ are remarkable. Georg Busch from Steinheim am Main made the four large wall paintings in the main nave over the pillar arcades in 1907. Most of the statues are of baroque origin and come from the connection between the parish and the St. Jakob monastery in Mainz ( story by Planig ). The organ prospectus was installed in 1908 by Michael Körfer from Gau-Algesheim. In the tower there are three bronze bells from the Otto foundry in Bremen-Hemelingen. They come from the time the church was built and survived the world wars.
