The parish church of St. Jakob is the Roman Catholic parish church of the city of Mitterteich in the northern Upper Palatinate in the diocese of Regensburg . The church, consecrated to St. James the Elder and St. Anne , was built from 1890 to 1893 according to plans by Carl Hocheder , after three previous buildings had already burned down on the same site. The church tower is the town's landmark, was built in 1606 and is therefore the oldest building in Mitterteich.

Interior

The high altar

In the choir is the high altar, which Pastor Karl Hof purchased in 1929 instead of an altar designed in the Dengler style. Above the altar table on the predella the four evangelist symbols are carved, above is a triangular structure with the symbols of the Holy Trinity: in the middle above on the altar in the pediment God the Father , in the middle part Jesus Christ on the altar cross and in between the Holy Spirit in form the pigeon. The Eucharist is reflected in the two relief panels on the sides. On the left panel is prophet Elijah of angels fed in the wilderness with bread and water ( 1 Kings 17.2 to 6  EU ), on the right the captain of asks Capernaum Jesus for the healing of his servant ( Matthew 8.5-13  EU ). Behind the two are a bearded prophet and the evangelist John, who record the event in writing.

The vault of the apse shows in mosaic work Christ in the mandorla, who comes again on clouds. In his left hand he is holding an open book, the other hand is raised in blessing. Two angels are depicted on either side on a gold background. The windows and walls of the choir are decorated with images of the apostles . The three windows behind the altar show the church patron James the Elder, Saint John and Saint Andrew. The wall bears pictures of a further eight apostles and a large painting of the church patron, while figures of the apostles Peter and Paul look into the nave .

In the central nave, scenes from the lives of the apostles Peter and Paul are depicted in small pictures on the high walls. Figures of saints on the pillars of the ship were removed during the renovation in 1931 and have been back in their places since the last renovation in the 1970s. On the first pair of pillars a holy bishop and St. Elisabeth can be seen, on the second St. Leonhard and the pulpit and on the third the figures of St. Anthony and his brother Konrad.

Figures of Joachim and Anna on the west wall of the vestibule were taken from the old church and there is a statue of St. Theresa of Lisieux at the entrance to the western gallery .
