Parish Church of St. James

The Catholic Church of St. Jakobus is a church building in Breckerfeld in the Ennepe-Ruhr district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The community belongs to the parish Christ King Halver-Breckerfeld-Schalksmühle-Dahl in the diocese of Essen .

The building is since 1985 - as well as the neighboring Protestant James Church - the monument list of Breckerfeld entered.

History and architecture

The five-axis baroque hall closes on two sides on the south side. The entrance tower is called 1728. It was originally built by the Reformed community after the great fire of 1727.

A small extension was added from 1962 to 1963. The Catholic parish took over the church from the Reformed Church in 1844 . The tower was raised in 1901 and crowned in 1967 with a hood in the Baroque style. The walls of the simple plastered building are structured by arched windows, and a frieze surrounds the church under the profiled eaves . The entrance portal is framed by plaster ashlars, wild men hold the Prussian coat of arms , which is crowned. In stichbogig closed room a mirrored ceiling rests on Voute .

  • The wooden baptism was made in the first quarter of the 19th century.
  • The Pietà was carved at the end of the 17th century, the setting was exposed in 1955.
  • The carved figures of the apostles Peter and Paul are works from around 1700.
  • In front of the city library there is a former cafeteria (altar plate).
