The Roman Catholic branch church St. Jakobus the Elder is the village church of Modlos, a district of Oberleichtersbach in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen . It is located in the center of the village and characterizes the townscape. Modlos is part of the parish community Oberleichtersbach- Schondra .

history

Modlos has always belonged to the parish of Oberleichtersbach, which is also the original parish of the Bad Brückenau area . The residents of Modlos had to attend the service in Oberleichtersbach. After a church building association had already been founded in 1910, the building of the church finally began in 1950 according to plans by the architect Sebastian Pfister from Bad Brückenau. The church was consecrated on October 20, 1952.

description

The church faces north. The nave with a gable roof has four window axes . The windows are arched. A roof turret rises above the southern wall of the nave . The choir has a floor level three steps higher and is polygonal with small round windows. A round choir arch separates it from the nave .

Furnishing

There is a crucifix on the choir wall , which was made by the sculptor Franz Martin from Würzburg in 1957. To the left of this is a figure of the church patron James the Elder with a walking stick and bag. It is a baroque copy that was acquired in the Upper Palatinate around 1974 . Originally it was to be seen on the right side altar , on which a Madonna and Child is now attached. The figure on the left side altar is St. Wendelin . The organ was installed on the gallery in 1962 by the company Norbert Krieger from Retzbach . It has 13 registers, two manuals and a pedal. Three bells with the tones d '', e '' and g '' hang in the roof turret. They sound in the Gloria motif.
