St. Johannes Baptist (Bruchhausen)
The Marienwallfahrtskirche St. Johannes Baptist is a listed church building in Bruchhausen (Neuwied district) . The church belongs to the “pastoral care area Verbandsgemeinde Unkel” and the “Dekanat Königswinter” in the Archdiocese of Cologne .
history
The Catholic parish church was built around 1230 as a flat-roofed Romanesque basilica . Around 1500 it was expanded into a Gothic hall church with net vaults and a high choir . The nave walls and the tower are still preserved from the original Romanesque church .
Furnishing
- The most important work of art is the depiction of the dance of death on a 17th century painting. In two sections, 20 people from different classes are shown with death.
- A pietà is the image of pilgrimage venerated by the faithful.
- A representation of Mary from the Cologne School from the 14th century . Otto Linnemann created a glass window in 1923.
organ
After many years with a harmonium and later with an electronic organ, the decision was made to install a pipe organ on the occasion of the upcoming church renovation in 2005. This was originally built in 1962 by the Anton Feith company from Paderborn for a Dortmund church. Since this was closed, the instrument was in 2006 after a short storage period of the company Orgelbau Schulte translocated from Kürten to Bruchhausen. In 2007 an additional drawer was added by the Schulte company. The pipe material required for this comes from an English organ. Only the planned installation of the pedal tongue (previously Rauschwerk III) has not yet been completed, but has already been prepared.
