History and buildings

After the introduction of the Reformation in the Principality of Calenberg around 1550, there was no Catholic community in Bad Münder for centuries. Since the middle of the 19th century, smaller industrial companies have also brought Catholic working-class families to the village. In 1896 Schloss Hasperde received at the instigation of Baroness Marie Therese von Hake, nee. Brentano (1846–1915) had a Catholic palace chapel and a house chaplain. On May 3, 1896, the first holy mass was celebrated there. This mission was the only Catholic settlement between Hanover and Hameln . From 1916, services were celebrated in Bad Münder in various rented halls.

In 1922 the Kuratiegemeinde Bad Münder was established, and in 1936 the (old) St. Johannes Baptist Church at Angerstrasse 29 was consecrated . The pastor moved from Hasperde to a rented apartment next to the church.

After the Second World War, the influx of Eastern Catholic expellees increased the community considerably. In the following years, further Catholic churches were built in Springe ( Christ König ) and Eimbeckhausen ( St. Godehard's branch church , closed in 1993). In Bad Münder itself, the old church had become too small. That is why the youth center was demolished in 1961 on the north side of the church and built in its place the present church, a brick - church hall with concrete struts and open gable roof . The consecration took place on May 6, 1962 by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . The old church was converted into a parish hall. Its tower was raised by 5 meters and received an electric bell. In 1963 the community became an independent parish . In 1989 Hanns Joachim Klug was in charge of the artistic redesign of the chancel.
