St. Joseph Church

The St. Josef Church is the Catholic church in Bad Sachsa , a town in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the parish " St. Benno " based in Bad Lauterberg , in the Nörten-Osterode deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church named after St. Joseph of Nazareth is located at Herderstrasse 6.

history

On June 21, 1931, the small Catholic Church of St. Josef on Herderstrasse was inaugurated. Before that, Catholic services had already taken place in the Hotel Schröder in Bad Sachsa, before that in a classroom of the elementary school.

After the Second World War , the number of Catholics in Bad Sachsa also increased due to the admission of expellees from the eastern regions of the German Empire .

In 1961, the then responsible diocese of Fulda began building a new church. The foundation stone was laid on April 23, 1962 and the older church was demolished. On July 14, 1963, Bishop Adolf Bolte inaugurated today's church.

In 1990 the church belonged to the deanery Eschwege in the diocese of Fulda, but was administered by the deanery Osterode of the diocese Hildesheim. In June 1995 the Parish Curatia Bad Sachsa was fully incorporated into the Diocese of Hildesheim.

Since March 1, 2004, the church has belonged to the newly founded Nörten-Osterode deanery. From August 1, 2004, the Holy Cross Church in Walkenried also belonged to the Bad Sachsa parish. In 2009 the Catholic retreat house at Bismarckstrasse 21, previously a family rest home, "Haus Tannenried" was closed. It was built in 1910 as the home of a manufacturer. There was a small Catholic chapel in the house. Since September 1st 2010 the church belongs to the parish “St. Benno ”in Bad Lauterberg, the parish“ St. Josef ”was canceled in this context. On March 1, 2013, of the 8,402 residents of Bad Sachsa, including the districts, 873 belonged to the Roman Catholic Church.

Architecture and equipment

The church, about 340 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by the architect Sonnen from Paderborn , and its 32-meter-high, cross-crowned bell tower can be seen from afar. The four bronze bells of the church, "LARGEST BUT IS LOVE", "SOLI DEO GLORIA", "AGGIORNAMENTO: JOHANNES XXIII " and "FOR LIFE", were cast on March 19, 1993 in Karlsruhe ; on May 1st they rang for the first time in Bad Sachsa.
