history

Until 1589 the fortified church , which stands on a hill in Angeltürn, belonged to the Catholics. When Angeltürn came to the von Dienheim in 1589, the residents had to accept the Protestant faith of their master. He drove out the Catholic pastor and handed the church over to the Reformed. From then on, the Catholics had to go to church in Boxberg. In 1768 the new owner of Angeltürn, the Catholic Baron Joseph von Fick, asked the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg to be allowed to build a church room for the Catholics in his castle. Supported by the Boxberg pastor Franz Godefried Dötzel, who portrayed the baron as a religious and righteous man, he received permission to do so just a month later with the promise that the church would be recognized as a parish church if "a suitable altar with portatile altar was erected "and they will be" equipped with all the necessary ornaments and paraments ". Construction was completed in July 1770 and the church was consecrated in August of the same year. Since then, catholic services have been celebrated in the chapel of St. Joseph in the basement of the castle .

When Franz von Fick, who, like his nine siblings, remained childless, the last von Fick died on July 8, 1879, he bequeathed all of his property to a foundation of the Catholic Church "for the establishment of a Roman Catholic parish in Angeltürn." In 1901 the Grand Duke and the Archbishop of Freiburg granted permission to do so. Since then the Ficksche Schloss has also been used as a rectory. In 1906 the parish received its first pastor after the last had been expelled by Albrecht von Dienheim in 1589. After the Second World War , Graffingen was still part of the Angeltürn parish . Today the church of St. Josef belongs to the pastoral care unit Boxberg-Ahorn, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

After the parsonage was rented privately for a few years or was empty, sisters of the Indian Order of St. Anne (Society of Sisters of St. Anne) have been living there since April 1, 2016.

Chaplain

The following pastors have been in Angeltürn since 1906: Pastor Friedrich Walz from 1906 to 1921, Pastor Bernhard Kummer from 1921 to 1930, Pastor Markus Herkert from 1930 to 1936, Pastor Wilhelm Kuhn from 1936 to 1944. After Pastor Kuhn's death, the parish was co-administered by the Boxberg parish until 1954. Karl Kloe, who was retiring due to illness, moved into the empty rectory in 1944. He took over pastoral care as parish administrator until 1954. After that, the pastor in Berolzheim , Oskar Rudolf, was entrusted with the administration of the parish of Angeltürn, who was later replaced by Pastor Pätzold. At the same time, Pastor Joseph Spie moved into the parsonage as a pensioner and worked as pastor administrator until 1959. In 1964, Pastor Erich Stadelhofer came to Angeltürn to take his retirement home and took over the parish from 1967. Thus, after 23 years, Angeltürn had its own pastor again. After his death in 1979, the administration was transferred to Pastor Leo Berberich from the Ahorn district of Eubigheim . In 1984 the parish of Boxberg took over the administration again. In 1985, Pastor Heinrich Grünewald from Kupprichhausen was appointed as administrator of the parish.
