St. Laurentius (Kronungen)
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Laurentius is a church in Kronungen , Bavaria , a district of the village of Poppenhausen in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt . It is one of the architectural monuments in Poppenhausen and is registered under the number D-6-78-168-28 in the Bavarian monument list . The church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Rome .
history
Before the construction of today's St. Laurentius Church , there was a St. Stephen's Church in Kronungen , the date of which is unknown and which, according to the remains that have been preserved, was possibly a fortified church .
The choir tower of the St. Laurentius Church was built in the years 1601–1603 in the Echter style , the nave was built in 1866/67.
When the church was being renovated in 1887, the Kissing sculptor Valentin Weidner submitted a cost estimate for the main altar with two reliefs for the altar table, the St. Mary's altar and the Joseph's altar with a new figure of Joseph for a total of 2031 marks on August 30, 1887 . It is not known whether Weidner was awarded the contract. To the displeasure of a later local pastor of Kronungen, the bill was not paid from the church treasury but from Treutlein’s legacy; Georg Treutlein donated 1,000 marks for this.
During a renewed renovation of the church, the Würzburg architect Hofmann certified the altars as an appraiser on July 2, 1912 and criticized the “simple and flat structure of this Gothic ” because of their colorful setting , whereupon the altars were painted in wood. A hundred years later, the original version was restored.
