history
The first known documentary mention of Kronungen comes from the year 779. The place name is derived from a personal name or from the Old High German "gruoni" (green, strong).
Over time, Kronungen was owned by the Fulda Monastery , the Neustadt am Main Monastery , the Würzburg Monastery and the Lords of Henneberg . The place initially belonged to the Bodenlauben office , then to the Ebenhausen office and to the Geldersheim center.
Kronungen was first mentioned as an independent parish in 1453. The first church in the village was St. Stephen's Church; its time of origin is unknown. In 1603 it was given a church tower in the real style and was replaced by today's St. Laurentius Church in 1866/67 with the construction of the nave . In 1580 the place became temporarily evangelical through the appointment of a pastor .
An attempt by the city of Schweinfurt to introduce Protestantism in Kronungen also failed during the Thirty Years' War . In 1632 Schweinfurt received rule over the place as a gift from King Gustav II Adolf ; However, Kronungen became independent again just two years later.
On July 1, 1971, Kronungen became a district of Poppenhausen as part of the municipal reform.
