history

The first known mention of Hain comes from February 26, 1302 and is in a document in the "Regesta Boica", which regulated the sale of the place to the Uraway monastery. The name of the place is derived from "hac" (enclosure, fence) or "hagan" (thorn bush).

The most important landlords of the town, which was part of the Ebenhausen office and court, were the bishops of Würzburg .

After the Hainer farmers took part in the peasant uprising of 1525 , they had to vow to hand over their weapons and not have any weapons in the future either. They also had to swear primal feuds .

At the time of the Reformation , the place belonging to the parish of Ebenhausen turned to the Protestant faith, but became Catholic again through the Counter-Reformation under Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . The St. Giles Church was built in 1870 .

On July 1, 1971, Hain became a district of Poppenhausen as part of the municipal reform.
