St. Leonhard (Burgau)
The Catholic cemetery chapel St. Leonhard in Burgau , a town in the Swabian district of Günzburg , was built in 1668. The chapel at Käppelestrasse 34, next to the entrance to the cemetery, is a protected architectural monument .
architecture
The chapel was built by Georg Kraus in 1668. The building is structured by pilasters . There are triangular gables above the drilled window frames . The building consists of a single nave nave with a flat ceiling. The retracted choir under the needle cap barrel ends in a semicircle. The square tower is crowned by an octagon with an onion dome.
The choir frescoes were created by Konrad Knoll in 1669/70. They represent the Madonna in protective cloak surrounded by ornamental vault paintings.
Furnishing
The altars were made around 1720/30. The high altar sheet, also by Konrad Knoll, shows St. Leonhard , the patron saint of the chapel, in a glory .
