The Catholic parish church of St. Leonhard is in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Kreuth in the Miesbach district . Together with the parish association of Tegernsee-Egern-Kreuth, it belongs to the Miesbach dean's office .

history

The first stone church in Kreuth was built in 1184 by order of the Tegernsee abbot Rupert von Neuburg-Falkenstein. The Augsburg Bishop Udalschalk consecrated it to St. Leonhard of Limoges . This church was demolished in 1489 due to its poor condition.

Until 1491, under Abbot Konrad Ayrenschmalz, the current church was built in Gothic style by the Tegernsee monastery builder Alex Gugler . The former branch church of the Tegernsee Monastery was consecrated by the Freising Bishop Sixtus von Tannberg and his auxiliary bishop Ulrich von Salona. The church building was redesigned in Baroque style in 1687 , extended by three meters to the west in 1776 and finally regotified in 1864. After secularization, Kreuth became an independent parish and the St. Leonhard parish church. Renovations to the building were made in 1930 and 1990/1991, in 1955, was the sanctuary remodeled.

The patronage festival has been celebrated since 1442 with a Leonhardi ride, which is considered the oldest in Bavaria .

Description and equipment

The listed hall church is spanned by a rib vault, above which is the slate roof. In the east there is the polygonal choir and in the south the steeple. The vestibule through which you get into the interior of the church is called the “ Tyrolean Temple”, probably because of the servants from the neighboring country, who only found space in this porch at masses.

Baroque frescoes were uncovered in the nave . In the church there are figures of St. Leonhard from the 16th century and Our Lady from around 1380.

organ

In 2006 Orgelbau Linder installed a new organ . The instrument, blessed on September 24, 2006, has a purely mechanical action and is equipped with two manuals and a pedal with 14 sounding stops . In the disposition there is an advance print and a transmission . The main plant is designed as a parapet .
