St. Magnus Chapel in Sommersberg

The Roman Catholic St. Magnus Chapel is located in Sommersberg , a district of Dietmannsried in the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria . The chapel is a listed building .

History and description of the building

The chapel was probably built in the late 18th century. It consists of a nave with a flat ceiling , to which a drawn-in, three-sided closed choir with barrel vault connects. The transition from the nave to the choir takes place through a round choir arch . The chapel is covered with a gable roof . On this is a modern roof turret on the east side . Both the windows and the entrance on the west side are arched.

Interior

On the altar is the figure of St. Magnus . This is flanked by two free pillars. In the entablature of the small altar there are two baroque putti . There are several wooden figures in the chapel. In a white and gold frame from 1780/1790, the figure of St. Sebastian . In the same version, but from around 1760, the figures of St. Joachim and St. Anna. The figures of St. Notburga and St. Aloysius date from the 18th century. The ceiling painting was created by Gebhard Eyerschmalz von Reicholzried.
