history

The medieval pilgrimage chapel St. Marien was first mentioned in 874. In the 12th century, a new one was built in place of an older one or the existing one was changed. The building erected at this time was originally a Romanesque choir tower church with a rectangular chancel and three cross vaults.

The choir , tower and the nave , which was last redesigned in the Baroque style in 1756, are each covered with simple gable roofs with paw crosses on the gables.

When the Gothic choir was destroyed by an aerial mine in 1945, a large Gothic tracery window was lost, as were the cornices, a sacraments , the altar with consecration crosses , a late Gothic shrine of Mary , the Baroque pulpit altar and the built-in nave. They could not be replaced during the emergency renovation in 1954 due to a lack of funds. The gable height of the choir was adjusted to that of the nave, so that some church objects could be placed in fragments. In the place of the choir is now the community room . The Gothic baptismal font has no foot; the preserved jewelry made of applied tracery is reminiscent of the formerly rich furnishings.
