St. Marien is a Roman Catholic church in the Wiedenbrück district of Rheda-Wiedenbrück . It was consecrated to St. Ursula and St. Mary (double patronage ). The church belongs to the parish of St. Aegidius , but is looked after by the Franciscans of the attached monastery . Because of the attached Franciscan monastery, the Wiedenbrücker citizens are also familiar with the church under the names Franziskanerkirche or Paterskirche . In contrast, the name St. Ursula is only rarely used.

history

  • Today's St. Mary's Church was built in 1470 on the remains of a Romanesque church from the 12th century.
  • At the beginning of the 17th century it was used by the Jesuits.
  • From 1644 the church was left to the Franciscans by the Osnabrück prince-bishop.
  • 1740 addition of the confessional chapel and the sacristy.
  • 1940/1942 By resolution of the Reich government, all bronze bells for the armaments industry are confiscated. Only the smallest bell (Klepp bell from 1645) remains in the church. Until after the war it is the only church bell in all of Wiedenbrück.

  • Marienaltar (erected by the Jesuits) from 1628 on the south side and Anne's Altar (Franciscan) from 1645 on the north side.
  • The Way of the Cross from 1911/1912 was made by Heinrich Repke .
