The Catholic parish church of St. Martin is a listed building in Dünschede , a district of the city of Attendorn , in the Olpe district , in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The original church was probably built as a hall church with a rectangular choir in the 11th century , evidence from excavations in 1974 speak for it.

The building is a small Romanesque hall church with three bays . It was built in the second half of the 13th century. The interior is 8.8 × 12 m. The building with a semicircular apse was made of quarry stone and later plastered white. In 1924 the church was expanded to the west. The Romanesque building was preserved, the destroyed tower was rebuilt. In the nineties of the twentieth century the church was extensively renovated. The hall is characterized by round pillars without plinths and ribbed cross vaults. The exposed remains of Romanesque wall paintings with scenes from the life of Jesus and St. Martin.
