The parish church of St. Martin, Gallus and Magnus is a Catholic church building in Wangen im Allgäu .

history

The church building has "grown" over the course of history. It is not known exactly when the first church was built on the site of today's parish church, but a period between the eighth century and 820 is assumed. A pastor was first mentioned in 1182. The tower and the eastern wall of the nave date from the period of the late twelfth century and the early thirteenth century, the choir from 1386. The last major renovation began at the end of the 14th century and, according to the inscription on the west portal, was completed in "Anno 1486" its final shape of a three-aisled columned basilica . In this context, the church was Gothicized. From 1684 to 1687 the church was redesigned in Baroque style . After a lightning strike, the tower helmet was replaced by a Welsche hood in 1739 . In November 1862, Ludwig Mittermaier's neo-Gothic choir windows , donated by Joseph Anton von Gegenbaur and Franz Lott, were installed. In 1898–1901 the church was re-gothic with a neo-Gothic interior .

The interior is characterized by the late historicist wall paintings by Gebhard Fugel . Further paintings were removed in 1952, Mittermaier's choir windows were expanded in 1960, and today they are lost.

organ

The large organ on the west gallery was built in 1987 by the organ building company Rieger (Vorarlberg). The slider chests -instrument has 39 registers (2,814 pipes ) on three manual works and pedal . The key actions and couplings are mechanical, the stop actions are electrical.
