St. Martinus (Hamburg-Eppendorf)
The St. Martinus Church is an Evangelical Lutheran church in the Hamburg district of Eppendorf , built from August 7, 1949 and consecrated on December 11, 1949 . It is located there at the fork in the street Martinistraße / Tarpenbekstraße and is one of three Bartning emergency churches in Hamburg.
Construction and extensions
Due to the change in the population structure and the churches destroyed in the Second World War, the Eppendorf parish began thinking about building new buildings as early as 1947. For today's St. Martinus Church, the emergency church program opened up the possibility of building a church very quickly, namely in 1949.
The design comes from the architect Otto Bartning with the assistance of Gerhard Langmaack and belongs to type B from the Notkirchen program. The external appearance clearly shows this affiliation and shows many parallels to other churches in this program. The ribbon windows running directly under the roof overhang and the design of the interior are typical. The round brick choir with the arched windows and the dome-shaped wooden ceiling is Langmaack's individual extension of the basic model. The interior is designed in wood and white plaster. The structure still clearly shows the prefabricated columns and roof trusses made of dark wood, which were left unclad. The white painted masonry is made of sand-lime brick , which was the cheapest material available at the time of construction. The church offers a total of 450 seats on benches traditionally arranged in two blocks with a central aisle
The tower with an entrance hall and a confirmation hall was added later. The building complex was completely renovated and repaired from 2009 to 2011.
Furnishing
The altar and pulpit are probably Langmaack's designs, the crucifix is by Fritz Fleer . The baptismal font created by Wolfgang Kreutter in 1949 is a bronze bowl on a stone column.
The church's three bronze bells date from 1956.
Changes
At first the church stood alone on the property, later two expansion phases followed. From 1951 to 1954 the sacristy was built first , the entrance hall at the front facing Martinistraße was enlarged and raised, the tower and the pastorate were built . From 1972 to 1973 the facility was expanded to include a new community hall. Architecturally, this building by the architect Jörn Rau blends in very well with the emergency church. Over the years, the surrounding residential development has moved closer and closer to the church, so that there was hardly any open space left around the church.
organ
Until 1974 there was a small organ , which was built in 1963 by the Alfred Führer company and which has been in the Franz von Assisi Church in Hamburg-Neuallermöhe since 1988 .
A Jehmlich organ was installed as the second organ in 1971 . Your disposition is:
