Sankt Martinus is the Roman Catholic parish church in Much ( Rhein-Sieg-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

A first previous church was mentioned on March 31, 1131 in a document from Pope Innocent II . In the document, the church in Much was confirmed as owned by the Cassius monastery in Bonn .

In the 12th and 13th centuries a three-aisled Romanesque basilica was built, of which the tower and the nave are still preserved. In the 15th century, the north aisle and the central nave were expanded to include the late Gothic choir . In the 18th and 19th centuries, the side aisles were designed in baroque style. At the end of the 19th century, a neo-Gothic part was added to the south of the choir.

Between 1952 and 1964 the church was completely renovated, the quarry stone building was given its current red-colored plaster and a new sacristy was added. From 1983 to 86 the central choir vault was renewed and the Mount of Olives altar was removed from the church. The latter was rebuilt next to the church.

Also worth seeing are the wooden cross from the late 13th century, the baroque wooden pulpit, the Romanesque baptismal font and the late Gothic tabernacle .
