The Catholic parish church of St. Maximin in Antweiler , a local parish in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in the 18th century and partially renovated after the destruction during the Second World War .

history

The church , consecrated to St. Maximin von Trier , a French-born Archbishop (329–346) of Trier , and St. Barbara as the second patroness of the church, had a previous building that stood on a hill above the existing rectory. The current church was consecrated on October 11, 1762 by dean Heinrich Cazzuola and extensively renovated around 1887. The bombings at the end of the Second World War destroyed the old tower of the four-axis hall building and the lead glass windows made in 1912 .

architecture

In 1958 the church, which had been poorly renovated after the war, was extended by an axis and the striking high concrete tower was added. This was subsequently clad with slate and provided with a pointed roof. Thus, the old part, a plastered quarry stone building with four axes and arched windows and a three-sided end with an attached sacristy , contrasts with the modern tower and the concrete entrance area. The entrance door was made of bronze in 1967 by the Adenau artist Georg Gehrig .
