St. Michael in Groß Stavern , parish of Stavern , is the parish church of the Catholic parish of St. Michael Stavern, which belongs to the dean's office Emsland-Nord of the Diocese of Osnabrück .

history

Stavern originally belonged to the parish of Sögel . As early as the 17th century there was a chapel with the patronage of Michael , which was probably destroyed in connection with the Anglo-Dutch War (1665–1667) .

The current church was built as a chapel according to plans by the architect Josef Niehaus . The foundation stone was laid on August 5, 1850, the inauguration on September 16, 1851.

In 1868 Stavern was parish off . As a result, the church was changed several times. In 1893 a choir and two sacristies were added, and in 1898 the top of the church tower was renewed and raised.

The late Classicist hall church made of brick is structured by pilaster strips between which there are arched windows. The choir was originally not a separate component, the choir, which was added in 1893, has a polygonal closure. Inside there is a hollow ceiling .

Furnishing

The original furnishings are neo-Gothic . In 1967 the interior of the church was redesigned as a result of the Second Vatican Council , the old altars were removed and replaced along with other pieces of equipment.
