Church of St. Michael, Hofdorf

Previous construction

When a church was first built in Hofdorf cannot be said with certainty. A benefit foundation with daily holy mass can be established as early as 1458. From 1666 the parish of Pondorf provided the community with a cooperator . In 1697 the church was also destroyed in a fire. It was not until 1764 that the church was rebuilt and the tower restored. The church bells, if they were still there, were also cast around. On April 28, 1881, the last service took place in the old church.

History and description of the building

Pulpit with reliefs of the four evangelists

The first efforts to expand or rebuild a church go back to 1870. The new church was built between 1880 and 1882 on the foundations of several previous buildings and was consecrated on April 14, 1883 by the Regensburg Bishop Ignatius . The foundation stone for the new church was laid on June 30, 1880. It is a high single-nave hall church with 14 buttresses. The main portal, the war memorial and the sacristy are in the south, a side entrance in the north. In the west of the church is the 45 meter high octagonal tower with a pointed roof. It is one of the largest in the wider area. The exterior is richly structured by tracery windows, stepped buttresses and stepped plinths.

In 1935 the interior of the church was renovated, and in 1950 it received a new roof. Further extensive and fundamental interior and exterior renovations followed from 1980 to 1982 and 2005. The four dials of the church tower clock were renewed in 1960 and an electric clock was installed. In 1985 the church got an organ . In 1983 the parish celebrated the centenary foundation festival.

particularities

High altar and side altars; in the apse colored glass windows

The colorful figural pointed arch windows in the chancel are among the special features of the church. In addition, the building has a profile similar to that of Regensburg Cathedral and has remained unchanged in its exterior and interior since it was built.

Interior details

The neo-Gothic furnishings consist of the high altar with trusses and St. Michael , the patron saint of the church and other angels, as well as two side altars each with net vaults in the chancel and in the nave: the left one with St. Anne, Mary and St. Joseph as well as the Good Shepherd , the right altar with the Saints Sebastian , Florian, Aloisius and Theresia. The pulpit shows reliefs of the four evangelists.

A simple baptismal font , the 14 stations of the cross and a picture of the holy brother Konrad complete the facility.

Bells

After the inauguration of the church in 1883, it got a new bell that was cast by the bell founder Johann Anton Spannagl from Regensburg. However, this had to be handed over to be melted down during the First World War .

In the belfry of the two-storey belfry now houses four bells, three of them were 1950 instead of in the Second World War, in turn melted purchased bells. In 1961 an electric bell was installed.
